Pricing Kashmir Transport into a Package ยท ZoonCabs
Pricing Kashmir transport into a package is the step where an agency turns a supplier's transport figure into a line in its own quote, and this is ZoonCabs's guide to doing it without losing the margin: the cost line, the markup, what to quote separately and where the contingency lives.
Transport is the part of a Kashmir package an agency does not run itself and the part most likely to move the margin after the client has paid. This is how to price it in: what to take from the supplier's figure, what to add, which items to keep outside it, and where the contingency goes.
Start from an all-inclusive figure, or do not start
The transport line in a package should be a supplier figure that already includes tolls, parking, driver allowance, night halts and air conditioning, with a stated waiting rate. If the figure does not include those, the agency is pricing a guess and the client pays the difference on the last day, to a driver, in cash, with the agency's name on the voucher. The cab fares explained guide is the checklist for reading a quote.
On ZoonCabs the account shows one figure for the whole itinerary with the standing discount applied. That figure is the cost line.
The markup
An agency's markup on transport is its own business, and ZoonCabs never sees it or interferes with it. Three things about where it goes:
- Mark up the itinerary, not the day. A client who sees a day rate will compare it with the taxi stand. A client who sees a package sees a package.
- Keep the local union vehicles out of the markup. The Pahalgam upper valleys are paid locally at the union's fare; quote them as a pass-through with a note, and the client thanks the agency for the honesty rather than blaming it for the fare.
- Mark up the vehicle class the client actually needs. A family of five priced on a sedan and upgraded at the airport is a margin gone. Price the SUV; the Innova or tempo traveller guide covers the choice.
What to quote separately
| Item | Why it is separate | How to present it |
|---|---|---|
| Local union vehicles above Pahalgam | The tour vehicle cannot replace them | "Paid locally, approx. range, not included" |
| Gondola, ponies, shikara | Attractions, not transport | An activities line, or "at your own cost" |
| Extra hours on a local day | Only incurred if the client keeps the car | The supplier's waiting rate, quoted as "if required" |
| Airport road check-post delays | Not a cost, but a time the client should expect | A line in the itinerary's notes |
The contingency
Kashmir roads close. A package with no slack loses a valley to one snowfall and the agency refunds a day it has already paid for. Two ways to carry the risk:
- A flexible day. One day in the itinerary that can swap with another; costs nothing, saves the most.
- Overnights rather than day trips for Gulmarg and Pahalgam. The overnight is the version of the trip that survives a closure, and on the figure it is rarely worse. The 5-day package guide shows the arithmetic.
On a ZoonCabs booking a day that cannot be run is not charged as run, and cancellations refund to the wallet under the published schedule, so the contingency the agency carries is the client's expectation, not the supplier's bill.
The cancellation schedule, passed through
An agency's own cancellation terms should sit on top of the supplier's, never below them. ZoonCabs publishes its schedule on the account and shows the refund figure before a cancellation is confirmed. Copy that schedule into the package terms with the agency's margin on top, and a cancelled client is never a loss the agency did not price.
Season
The supplier's figure moves with the season, and the package should too. Tulip season in April, the summer peak and the Amarnath Yatra weeks are not the same price as November, and an agency that publishes one package price for the year is averaging, and paying the average in the low season. Price the package for the travel dates. The pricing explainer covers what moves the number.
Frequently asked questions from agencies
How much should a travel agency mark up transport in a Kashmir package?
That is the agency's decision and ZoonCabs never sees it or interferes with it. Two rules help: price the itinerary as a whole rather than by the day, because a day rate invites comparison with the taxi stand, and price the vehicle class the client actually needs, because a family priced on a sedan and upgraded at the airport is a margin gone.
Should the Pahalgam local taxis be inside the package price?
No. Quote them as a pass-through paid locally, with a note in the itinerary. The tour vehicle cannot replace them, the union's fare is not the agency's to set, and a client told in advance thanks the agency for the honesty rather than blaming it for the fare when the pony man asks.
How do we protect the margin against road closures?
Three ways. A flexible day that can swap with another costs nothing and saves the most. Overnights rather than day trips for Gulmarg and Pahalgam survive a closure that a day trip does not. And a supplier that does not charge for a day it did not run, which on ZoonCabs is the rule.
