Questions to Ask a Kashmir Transport Supplier · ZoonCabs

What a travel agent should ask before booking Kashmir transport is a checklist of six questions for any supplier, ZoonCabs included, before committing a client, and this guide says what each question is for and what a good answer sounds like.

Most Kashmir itineraries fail in the same few places, and almost all of them are transport. These are the questions worth asking before you commit a client.

1. Is it one driver for the whole itinerary, or one per day?

This is the question that matters most and gets asked least. A multi-day trip run by a different vehicle each morning means your client re-explains the plan daily, and nobody owns the itinerary. One transporter across the whole trip means one person accountable when day three does not go as written.

2. What is actually included in the fare?

Tolls, parking, driver allowance and air conditioning are the usual places a quoted price turns into a different price at the end of the day. Ask for the inclusive number and check the itemisation exists, because your client will ask you and not the driver.

3. Who verified the vehicle and the driver?

"A trusted local contact" is not verification. Ask whether documents are held and checked, and by whom. This is the answer that matters on the one trip in a hundred where something goes wrong.

4. What happens when a road closes?

The Sonamarg road shuts in winter. The Mughal Road shuts for months. The Jammu–Srinagar highway closes after heavy weather and reopens. None of that is unusual and all of it is foreseeable — so the question is not whether it happens but what the supplier does when it does, and who tells your client.

5. How does cancellation actually work?

Get the tiers in writing before you need them: how close to travel is free, what the fee becomes after that, and where the refund goes. A policy you read for the first time during a cancellation is a policy you will disagree with.

6. Can you sell it under your own name?

If your client's voucher, your website and your invoices carry someone else's brand, you have introduced them to your supplier. Whether that matters is your call — but it should be a call, not something you discover after the trip.

The underlying point

Kashmir is not a hard place to run a trip. It is a place where distances are longer than they look, weather is a real variable, and the difference between a good operator and a cheap one shows up on day three rather than day one.

Frequently asked questions from agencies

What is the first question to ask a Kashmir transport supplier?

Whether it is one driver for the whole itinerary or one per day. It is the question that matters most and gets asked least. A multi-day trip run by a different vehicle each morning means the client re-explains the plan daily and nobody owns day three. One transporter across the whole trip means one person accountable when the day does not go as written.

What should a Kashmir transport quote include?

Tolls, parking, the driver's allowance on outstation days, night halts the itinerary carries, and air conditioning on hill roads, with waiting beyond a day's limit at a rate stated in advance. Those are the places a quoted price turns into a different price at the end of the trip. A supplier who cannot answer each one in writing is quoting a starting price.

How can an agency verify a supplier's vehicles from outside Kashmir?

Ask for the tourist permit, insurance and registration of the vehicle that will run the trip, and the transporter's registration, before the client lands. The airport road and the valley check-posts want to see the same documents. On ZoonCabs every transporter and driver is documented before their first trip and the documents stay on file for the agency to see.

What happens when a road closes mid-itinerary?

The honest answer from a good supplier is that dispatch reroutes or reschedules the day with the driver and calls the agency, not the client, and that a day which cannot be run is not charged as run. The answer to be wary of is that the driver will sort it out on the day. Ask who calls whom, and whether the agency hears it first.
