Is Uber Available in Srinagar? What Works Instead ยท ZoonCabs

Is Uber available in Srinagar, and what works instead, is a question travel businesses ask ZoonCabs before every season; the answer has been yes since January 2024, and this guide explains what the app solves and what an agency arranging a client's Kashmir trip still needs a ground operator for.

Yes. Uber has operated in Srinagar since 30 January 2024, when it launched Uber Go for rides within the city and Uber Intercity for trips out to Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg. Ola was licensed at the same time. Both came in under the Jammu and Kashmir Motor Vehicle Aggregator Rules of 2023, which is when app-based cabs became legal in the region at all. So a tourist with the app can get a car in Srinagar. What follows is what that solves, and what it leaves open, for a travel agency arranging a client's trip. Checked September 2026.

What the apps are good for

A ride across the city. A hotel to a restaurant, the Boulevard to Lal Chowk, an unplanned hour when the client wants to go somewhere and the tour vehicle is on a rest day. For that, Uber Go in Srinagar works the way it works in any Indian city, with the same variability: availability drops in the evening and at the edges of the city, and surge pricing appears when demand does.

Uber Intercity offers the valley destinations as one-way or round trips. A tourist travelling alone with a day to spare can use it and often will.

What they do not solve for an agency

An agency that has sold a Kashmir package is not looking for a ride. It is looking for a supplier, and the app is not one. Six gaps, each of which lands on the agency when it opens:

  1. No voucher in the agency's name. The client books on their own phone, pays on their own card, and holds a receipt from Uber. The agency has sold transport it neither booked nor can show.
  2. No driver continuity. Every ride is a new driver. A five-day itinerary is five days of explaining the plan to someone who was not there yesterday.
  3. No airport pickup with a flight number. The app finds a car when the client requests one, after landing, after the check-post, with luggage. A pre-booked pickup has the driver waiting with the flight tracked.
  4. No group vehicles. The app fleet is sedans and hatchbacks. A family of six or a group of twelve needs an SUV or a tempo traveller, booked in advance, with the luggage accounted for.
  5. No dispatch that answers to the agency. When a road closes or a car fails, the app offers another car if one is near. Nobody calls the agency, and nobody re-plans the day.
  6. No rate the agency can mark up. The client sees the price. There is no wholesale figure, no margin and no way to include it in a package at a fixed number.

None of this is a criticism of the app. It is built for someone who wants to go somewhere now. A package is built weeks ahead, for a party, with a name on it.

What agencies use instead

A ground transport supplier that works with the trade: verified tourist-permit vehicles, one driver for the whole itinerary, an all-inclusive figure with a standing discount for the agency, a voucher under the agency's brand, and a dispatch desk that phones the agency whenever something changes. That is what ZoonCabs is, and the B2B cab services in Srinagar page describes the whole arrangement. The questions to ask a Kashmir transport supplier guide is the checklist for comparing any supplier, ours included.

A sensible split

Many agencies now do both. The package carries the transfers, the day trips and the circuit on a booked vehicle with one driver, and the client is told that Uber Go exists for an evening out in Srinagar on a rest day. The client gets flexibility where it costs nothing, and the agency keeps the parts of the trip that carry its name on a supplier it can hold to account.

Frequently asked questions from agencies

Is Uber operational in Srinagar?

Yes, since 30 January 2024. Uber Go runs inside Srinagar and Uber Intercity offers rides out to the three valleys. Ola was licensed under the same 2023 aggregator rules. Availability thins in the evening and outside the city.

Can an agency use Uber for a client's Kashmir package?

For an evening ride in the city, yes. For the package itself, no: there is no voucher under the agency's brand, no driver continuity, no flight-tracked airport pickup, no group vehicles and no wholesale rate to mark up.

Does Uber go to Gulmarg or Pahalgam from Srinagar?

Uber Intercity lists Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg as destinations from Srinagar. It is a per-ride booking on the client's own account and card, with a driver assigned at the time, not a tour vehicle with the same driver for the itinerary and no voucher in the agency's name. For a package the agency needs a supplier, not a ride.
